This course builds on the Absolute beginners course and students will learn the foundational elements of the Ashtanga vinyasa yoga practice. Ashtanga yoga is different from other yoga classes in that the sequence of postures is always the same. This is designed so that the body gets used to the physical postures so that they become second nature, leaving you to focus inwards and concentrate on the breath.

We always start with the sun salutations, which all of the vinyasas are based on, and then move through the standing sequence and seated sequence. We always end with the finishing sequence which is designed to slow you down and lead you into a long relaxation at the end.

We breathe with sound so that we can hear the breath, making it easier to focus. The class is counted in Sanskrit to enable more focus. Each posture has a sequence of vinyasas which leads in and out of the main posture which is held for five breaths.

The class is perfect if you want a physically challenging practice and already have one year plus experience of Ashtanga,or Vinyasa yoga. The practice builds strength and flexibility and can be modified to suit any body. Easier variations are given for each posture, allowing you to experience the practice in a safe way and work around any injuries you may have.

If you have any injuries or illness, please let us know before starting the class.
